This year's budget was short by $1.8 Million. Last year the deficit was $2 Million. My opponents raised taxes AND tapped into the city's savings account to fund normal operations. I will tap into tourist dollars through hotels and short-term rentals to minimize the burden on taxpayers. Vote for me, and I will make our city 2% better by working with our city staff and city council.
I think we can all agree that the city and the Press can do a better job informing citizens about opportunities and plans. I will work with city staff to ensure communication is clear, frequent, and through media you use.
I will work with all 13 department heads to engage citizens. We will create opportunities to serve with first responders with a volunteer chaplain corps. We will also allow citizens to give back by fixing up park benches and other amenities. As we engage the younger generation of the city, pride and love of our city will increase.
Rather than shut down urban renewal, as one of my opponents claims he will do, we need to repurpose and retool. Imagine using urban renewal to acquire property and build an indoor sports complex for year-round training, competitions, and state tournaments. This will increase revenue to our economy by creating additional jobs and bringing in additional tourist dollars.

“The city council shall…prepare a budget”
The last two city budgets ($140-$150 Million) did NOT pencil even after raising property taxes to the MAX!
2024-2025 budget: $2.0M in the RED
2025-2026 budget: $1.8 Million in the RED
Dan Gookin and Woody McEvers have not been able to budget over the last two years. Why should we vote for either of them now? We need change! I own a local business, employ nearly 100 people, here, and I want to get us out of this mess without collecting the mayor's salary of $38,000 plus benefits. I love the city and can get it back on track.
It’s time for tourists to help pay for our streets, parks, and first responders! On day one as mayor I will meet with the leadership of all CDA hotels to implement a voluntary fee of ~2% on hotel stays. I will ask the resort to add a $2 fee to all cruise tickets. This money will directly fund our police, fire, streets, and parks.

John shares his vision for the city.
Can we shrink the field? Shortly after declaring my candidacy I wrote a letter to Woody to try and narrow the field...
Coeur d’Alene is a city with a small-town heart. In recent years, CDA has welcomed many who’ve left states like California and Washington seeking safer communities, lower taxes, and less government overreach. But our identity must be more than what we escaped—it must be defined by what we build. I've been here over 17 years and can guide the next phase. Together, we can make CDA feel more connected, more engaged, and more secure—without losing the charm that drew us all here in the first place.
K27 Memorial. John Pulsipher will support first responders as mayor of Coeur d'Alene.
This campaign isn’t about one person—it’s about all of us. Here’s how you can help:
