Coeur d'Alene benefited from good leadership for many years. It's time for the next generation of leaders to stand on their shoulders, engage the citizens of Coeur d'Alene, and chart the future.
Inform, Listen, Decide
Legal notices are currently made in the CDA Press. Most people don't subscribe to or read the press. On Day 1, I will direct city staff to work with additional outlets for publication of all legal notices. One example is North Idaho News on Facebook.
Day one focus: First Responders
When police officers, firefighters, and other first responders show up to save lives and do really heavy lifting, they go above and beyond. We need to support them by giving them a "wingman," of sorts. On day one, I’ll launch a volunteer chaplain program to support first responders and citizens in times of crisis—bringing comfort, compassion, and connection when it’s needed most.
Day one focus: Collect a Fair Share From Tourists
As mayor, on day one, I will meet with the leadership of the Coeur d'Alene Resort. I will ask them to implement a surcharge for hotel stays, payable to the city. This will result in tourist dollars directly supporting the amenities and resources they use. The Hagadone Corporation will, as usual, set the example for supporting the community. Together, we will rapidly and urgently convince lawmakers to pass state legislation allowing cities our size to implement this local lodging tax.
